Managed Release Concept
Amanda Hess, PhD
Water Resources Engineer at OptiRTC Inc.
Post-Doctoral Researcher at Villanova University
Managed Release Concept (MRC) is a post-construction stormwater management (PCSM) strategy that comprises the collection, management, and filtration of captured runoff through a best management practice (BMP) that is preferably vegetated and includes release of a portion of the captured runoff through an underdrain within the BMP. This is a newly implemented stormwater management method is intended to be used for project areas or subareas where infiltration is considered not feasible to meet volume removal regulatory requirements in PA. This presentation will include design criteria and background of design criteria for an MRC system.
Amanda Hess works as a Water Resources Engineer at OptiRTC Inc where she works on implementation of real time controls on stormwater infrastructure. She is also a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Villanova University where she is working on the update of the PA DEP Stormwater Manual. She has received her Masters and Doctorate in Civil and Environmental from Villanova University, where she worked on quantification of evapotranspiration and methods to include it in design of vegetated stormwater control measures.
