Envision
Municipalities are making an effort to incorporate green infastructure into their standard business practice. Currently there is no standard for evaluating wastewater infrastructure projects in terms of the project intent and resulting economic, environmental, and social impacts. The non-profit Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) created the EnvisionTMSustainable Infrastructure Rating System (in collaboration with the Zofnass Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design) as a compliment to LEED for green (occupied) buildings. EnvisionTM is designed for un-occupied buildings and all other types of infrastructure. EnvisionTM is available as a free, self-assessment checklist and a comprehensive project assessment with third party verification and award recognition.
Sustainable Sites
The Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES™) is the first performance-based rating system for the development, maintenance, and regeneration of landscape projects. Modeled after the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) rating system, SITES is a voluntary rating system, focused on the space outside of the building, or on projects without a building at all, and targets on site-based issues that are perceived to be absent from the existing LEED™ rating system. Two spaces designed by Andropogon Associates were selected as pilot projects for the program, Shoemaker Green in Philadelphia, and Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh. Shoemaker Green has since received a two-star rating and the Phipps Conservatory received the first four-star rating of all the pilot projects to date.
Jean Malafronte has over 11 years of experience with Greeley and Hansen in the planning, design and construction of large wastewater facilities and complex and comprehensive planning programs. As project manager for the NYC DEP Long Term Control Plan, Ms. Malafronte has worked on multiple large, complex planning documents under Consent Order mandate. She currently works with the Philadelphia Water Department to develop a long range wastewater master plan. She is a registered professional engineer in the State of NY and is a LEED and Envision accredited professional.
Donna Shumpert is a landscape designer at Andropogon Associates and assistant to their Integrative Research Division. Ms. Shumpert holds an MLA with a concentration in ecological restoration from Temple University and a B.S. in Horticulture from Delaware Valley College.
